This Cattleya grex is the cross Cattleya Interglossa var. coerulea 'Purple Tower' x Laeliocattleya Elegans var. coerulea 'Leviathan'. It was registered with the RHS by E.Thayer in 1902. The seed parent is the species Cattleya amethystoglossa native to Brazil (Pernambuco to Espírito Santo) and the pollen parent is Cattleya intermedia native to south-east and south Brazil to Paraguay.
