Schomburgkia splendida is an epiphytic species first described in 1913. It occurs in the Valle de Cauca and Nariño departments of Colombia and Ecuador in dry montane forests at elevations of 600 to 3300 metres. This large plant prefers cold temperatures and blooms in summer and winter.
