Acineta orchids

Acineta are pseudobulbous epiphytes or geophytes from wet tropical and seasonally dry tropical climates. They occur most often in Colombia, Costa Rica to Panama, Colombia to north-west Venezuela and other parts of Central America to north-west Colombia. Plants reach elevations of 800 to 2800 metres. They are large or medium sized and suited to cool or intermediate temperatures. Most species are fragrant and bloom mainly in summer and spring.

Twelve species are catalogued. Example species are Acineta Chrysantha, Acineta superba, Acineta hrubyana, Acineta sella-turcica and Acineta sulcata.
