Barbosella orchids

Barbosella species are miniature epiphytes. They occur from west South America to north-west and north Venezuela, from Costa Rica to south Venezuela and Ecuador, from Mexico to Tropical America, and in Brazil from Rio de Janeiro to Paraná as well as from São Paulo to Rio Grande do Sul. The plants grow in wet tropical and seasonally dry tropical climates at elevations from 700 to 1300 metres. They prefer intermediate to cool temperatures and flower mainly in spring, fall and winter.

Fourteen species are catalogued. The examples include Barbosella cucullata, Barbosella cogniauxiana, Barbosella dusenii, Barbosella orbicularis and Barbosella portillae.
