Ceratostylis orchids

Ceratostylis species are epiphytic plants from wet tropical climates. They occur most often in the Philippines and tropical Asia to Vanuatu, then from east Nepal to China in south Yunnan and Indo-China. Plants are small or miniature and grow at elevations from 200 to 1900 metres. They prefer hot or intermediate temperatures and flower mainly in spring, winter and summer.

Ten species are catalogued. The examples are Ceratostylis retisquama, Ceratostylis himalaica, Ceratostylis pristina and Ceratostylis subulata.
