Chysis orchids

Chysis are pseudobulbous epiphytes that also grow terrestrially in wet tropical regions. The species occur from Central Mexico to Central America, south-east Mexico to north Guatemala, Central America to Bolivia and north Venezuela. They are found at elevations from 0 to 1800 metres. Plants reach large or medium size and prefer intermediate or cool temperatures. Most species are fragrant and bloom mainly in spring, summer and winter.

Ten species and four hybrids are catalogued. Example species are Chysis limminghei, Chysis bractescens, Chysis aurea, Chysis bruennowiana and Chysis laevis. Registered hybrids include Chysis Delores Garcia and Chysis Langleyensis.
