Cyclopogon orchids

Cyclopogon species are tuberous geophytes and epiphytes that grow terrestrially. They occur from Colombia to Ecuador, Venezuela to west South America and Argentina, Mexico to Central America, and south-east and south Brazil to north Argentina. They favour seasonally dry tropical and wet tropical climates at elevations from 600 to 2800 metres. Plants are medium to miniature in size and prefer cold to cool temperatures. Blooming occurs mainly in fall, winter and spring.

Six species are catalogued. The example species include Cyclopogon congestus, Cyclopogon lindleyanus, Cyclopogon argyrotaenius, Cyclopogon comosus and Cyclopogon epiphyticus.
