Cynorkis orchids

Cynorkis species are terrestrial tuberous geophytes with a typical growth habit that is terrestrial. They come from seasonally dry tropical climates in Madagascar, central Madagascar and the west Indian Ocean. Elevations for the species range from 100 to 2000 metres. The typical plant size is medium and they prefer cool to intermediate temperatures. The main bloom seasons are summer, fall and spring.

Five species are catalogued. Examples are Cynorkis fastigiata and Cynorkis purpurea.
