Cyrtopodium orchids

Cyrtopodium species are pseudobulbous epiphytes or geophytes that grow terrestrially or epiphytically. They occur from Colombia to north South America and north Brazil, Trinidad, south Colombia to Peru, east Bolivia to east and south Brazil, south Florida, Caribbean to Venezuela and south-west and Central Colombia, Brazil to Paraguay, north and west South America to north-west Argentina. They favour seasonally dry tropical or wet tropical climates at elevations from 220 to 2000 metres. Plants are large or giant and prefer hot or cool conditions. Most species are fragrant and bloom mainly in spring, winter and summer.

Eleven species are catalogued. Example species include Cyrtopodium longibulbosum, Cyrtopodium paniculatum, Cyrtopodium andersonii, Cyrtopodium punctatum and Cyrtopodium saintlegerianum.
