Dichaea orchids

Dichaea species are epiphytic subshrubs from wet tropical and seasonally dry tropical climates. They are found from Ecuador and Colombia to Venezuela, Mexico to Central America, south Tropical America, Central America to Brazil, the Caribbean and Central America to Peru. Elevations range from 100 to 2500 metres. Temperature preferences are intermediate and hot. Plants range from miniature to large. Most species are fragrant. Main bloom seasons are fall, spring and summer.

Ten species are catalogued. The example species are Dichaea hystricina, Dichaea camaridioides, Dichaea ecuadorensis, Dichaea kegelii and Dichaea laxa.
