Epipactis orchids

Epipactis species are terrestrial orchids. They are perennial or rhizomatous geophytes from temperate climates and prefer cold temperatures. Plants are large or medium in size. They occur at elevations from 150 to 4000 metres. Bloom seasons are summer, spring and late spring. The species come from south-west Canada to north Mexico, Nepal to Central China and Europe to the Caucasus and Mongolia.

Four species are catalogued. Examples include Epipactis gigantea, Epipactis mairei and Epipactis palustris.
