Fernandezia orchids

Fernandezia species are epiphytic subshrubs from wet tropical climates. They occur from Ecuador to Peru, from Venezuela to Peru and across west South America. These plants grow at elevations from 2100 to 3300 metres. They are miniature to small and prefer cold to cool temperatures. Blooming takes place mainly in spring, fall and winter.

Three species are catalogued. The examples are Fernandezia ionanthera, Fernandezia subbiflora and Fernandezia maculata.
