Jumellea orchids

Jumellea is an African and Indian Ocean genus of around sixty species, with the highest diversity in Madagascar and the Mascarene Islands. Plants are monopodial epiphytes, generally small to medium in size, with strap-shaped leaves in two ranks. Flowers are single or paired per inflorescence, typically pure white with a prominent nectar spur, and many species are strongly night-fragrant.

The genus is closely allied to Angraecum and shares the African hawkmoth-pollination ecology. Jumelleas are not widely cultivated outside specialist collections, but several species are in circulation among collectors of African and Madagascan orchids.

General care for the genus (species, hybrids and cultivars vary, so check with the grower for a specific plant): intermediate to warm temperatures (nights 15 to 20 °C), bright indirect light (2,000 to 3,000 footcandles), high humidity (65 to 80 percent), regular watering with drying between.
