Lockhartia orchids

Lockhartia species are epiphytic orchids. They are found from Trinidad to south Tropical America, from Central America to Venezuela, from Central America to Ecuador, from Mexico in Oaxaca and Chiapas to Central America, from Costa Rica to Venezuela and Peru, and in Peru. The typical climate is wet tropical or seasonally dry tropical. Elevations range from 300 to 2500 metres. Plants are small or large and grow in hot or intermediate temperatures. Main bloom seasons are fall, spring and summer.

Fifteen species and one hybrid are catalogued. Example species are Lockhartia lunifera, Lockhartia goyazensis, Lockhartia parthenocomos, Lockhartia acuta and Lockhartia oerstedii.
