Luisia orchids

Luisia are epiphytic subshrubs from wet tropical climates. They occur from the Philippines and Guam through the Himalaya to China south Yunnan and Indo-China, Myanmar and west Malesia. Plants grow at elevations from 200 to 1900 metres. They are large or medium in size and prefer intermediate to hot temperatures. Blooming occurs mainly in spring.

Seven species are catalogued. Example species include Luisia thailandica, Luisia brachystachys, Luisia zollingeri, Luisia primulina and Luisia teretifolia.
