Peristeria orchids

Peristeria species are pseudobulbous epiphytes that also grow terrestrially. They come from wet tropical regions of south Tropical America, Central America to Venezuela and Ecuador, Trinidad, Panama to south Tropical America, and Colombia to Venezuela in Amazonas. The plants are large and occur at elevations from 100 to 700 metres. They prefer hot to intermediate temperatures and flower mainly in spring, winter and summer.

Seven species and one hybrid are catalogued. Example species include Peristeria elata, Peristeria pendula, Peristeria ephippium and Peristeria guttata. The example registered hybrid is Peristeria Parotia.
