Rhynchostele orchids

Rhynchostele species are pseudobulbous epiphytes that grow epiphytically or terrestrially. They occur from Mexico to Central America, south-east Mexico to Guatemala, Mexico (Chiapas) to north-west Venezuela and Mexico (Veracruz to Oaxaca). The plants come from seasonally dry tropical and wet tropical climates at elevations of 2000 to 3200 metres. They are large or medium in size and prefer cold or cool temperatures. Blooming occurs mainly in spring and winter.

Five species and twenty hybrids are catalogued. Example species are Rhynchostele bictoniensis, Rhynchostele ehrenbergii, Rhynchostele majalis, Rhynchostele rossii and Rhynchostele stellata.
