Spiranthes orchids

Spiranthes are terrestrial perennials or tuberous geophytes from temperate regions. They occur from south-east U.southA. to south-east Oklahoma, east and EC. U.southA. to Guatemala, the Bahamas, Réunion, Assam to SC. Japan and New Caledonia, east Canada to Central and east U.southA., and south-east Canada to east U.southA. Plants are miniature or small and prefer cold temperatures. Most species are fragrant and bloom mainly in summer and fall.

Eight species are catalogued. Example species are Spiranthes cernua, Spiranthes sinensis, Spiranthes ochroleuca and Spiranthes odorata.
