Thunia orchids

Thunia species occur as pseudobulbous geophytes or epiphytes and also as epiphytes or lithophytes. They grow in terrestrial or epiphytic habits in wet tropical regions from north-east India to south-west Thailand, Indo-China, the Himalaya to SC. China and Peninsula Malaysia. Plants reach large or medium sizes and favour intermediate or cool temperatures. Flowering takes place in summer, early summer and late spring.

Eight species and one hybrid are catalogued. The example species are Thunia alba, Thunia bensoniae and Thunia pulchra. Thunia Gattonensis is the example registered hybrid.
