Xylobium orchids

Xylobium species are pseudobulbous epiphytes that also grow terrestrially. They occur from Ecuador to Peru and in other parts of Mexico to tropical America. They grow at elevations from 800 to 3000 metres in wet tropical climates. Plants are large or medium sized and prefer cool to intermediate temperatures. Blooms appear in winter, spring and fall.

Eight species are catalogued. Examples include Xylobium pallidiflorum, Xylobium leontoglossum, Xylobium bractescens and Xylobium foveatum.
