Cleisostoma orchids

Cleisostoma species are epiphytic or lithophytic subshrubs and chamaephytes. They occur from east Nepal to China and Peninsula Malaysia, east Himalaya to Malesia, Indo-China to Hainan, and Bhutan to south China. These plants grow in wet tropical climates at elevations from 100 to 2150 metres. They are miniature or medium in size and prefer intermediate to hot temperatures. Blooming takes place mainly in spring, summer and fall.

Nineteen species and one hybrid are catalogued. The example species are Cleisostoma arietinum, Cleisostoma discolor, Cleisostoma fuerstenbergianum, Cleisostoma parishii and Cleisostoma racemiferum.
