Myrmecocattleya orchids

Myrmecocattleya is an artificial hybrid genus. Its registered hybrids combine Cattleya and Myrmecophila. Cattleya species are pseudobulbous epiphytes from north Venezuela and parts of Brazil in seasonally dry tropical climate. Myrmecophila species are pseudobulbous epiphytes from south-east Mexico to Belize and other regions of Mexico and Central America in wet tropical climate.

Nine hybrids are catalogued. Examples include Myrmecocattleya Elegance, Myrmecocattleya Luster ‘Gazelle’, Myrmecocattleya Thammasiri and Myrmecocattleya Trudy Fennell.
