Elleanthus orchids

Elleanthus species are epiphytic or terrestrial perennials from wet tropical regions. They occur from south-east Mexico to south Tropical America, most often in west South America from Colombia to Peru. Plants grow at elevations from 200 to 3800 metres. They prefer cool to intermediate temperatures and reach large or medium sizes. Blooming occurs mainly in spring, fall and winter.

Thirteen species are catalogued. Examples include Elleanthus graminifolius, Elleanthus ampliflorus, Elleanthus aureus, Elleanthus blatteus and Elleanthus capitatus.
